WRITING

As children engage in reading, math, social studies, and science, one way to share their thinking it through writing. Third graders organize their thoughts on a page by writing multi-page and multi-paragraph documents on topics of their choice.

How can you help your child at home?

  • Keep it light! Encourage your child to get his or her ideas on the page without stressing too much over spelling and punctuation; that will come with more and more learning and practice.
  • Encourage your son or daughter to write a little bit every day, even if it's just a sentence or two about what they noticed throughout the day.
  • Show him or her how much writing you do each day and share your purposes for writing.

Writing units will focus on narrative, informational, and opinion pieces throughout the year. Students will also be learning some keyboarding skills since they will be composing on their Chromebook.

"Must Spell" Words - These are high frequency words that children should be able to write accurately by the end of each grade.
